Locating Vulnerable Plaque
Interventional Imaging, Inc. (I3) is an early-stage medical device company focused on the detection and treatment of vulnerable plaque in the coronary arteries of the heart. I3 was formed by Case Western Reserve University and is based on novel technologies developed in the Department of Radiology at University Hospitals of Cleveland by the Company's founders, Drs. Jonathan Lewin and Jeffery Duerk.

Arteriocyte, Inc.
Case's First Stem Cell Company
Arteriocyte, Inc. is an early-stage non-embryonic stem cell company developing treatments to grow new blood vessels for patients with a variety of vascular diseases. Arteriocyte was founded by two faculty members from the Case School of Medicine and University Hospitals of Cleveland -- Mary Laughlin, M.D. and Vincent Pompili, M.D. The company is based on technologies developed by the founders and Steven Haynesworth, Ph.D., Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Case. The company is the first spin-out of the University's new Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.

Synapse Biomedical, Inc. is a northeast Ohio based medical device company focused on the development and commercialization of minimally invasive neurostimulation technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Synapse has licensed technologies developed by researchers at Case and UHHS, including Dr. Raymond Onders.

Anti-infective compounds and technologies
Headquartered in Concord, Ohio, Great Lakes Pharmaceuticals focuses
on the clinical development of promising antibiotic and antifungal
compounds. The company was formed from a new partnership between Case
and Ricerca Biosciences, a northeast Ohio contract research
organization. The company intends to enter the growing market for
anti-infective drugs with several proprietary compounds and expects
to initiate clinical trials of its first candidate in 2006.
