Sponsored Projects Accounting Update
|
After careful consideration, it has been determined that Nick DeGeorge will remain with the Controller’s Office as Director of Indirect Cost. Effective immediately, Robin Trail, Associate Director of Sponsored Projects Accounting, will be responsible for directing the post-award sponsored projects activity (e.g., FSRs, cost transfer review, project close-out, invoicing) for all schools at the university. Nick will be transitioning his other SPA responsibilities (largely those related to core functions, e.g., cash drawdown, financial cash transaction reports) to certain SPA staff on an interim basis until a replacement is hired.
Recruitment efforts are well underway for additional staff in SPA and it is hoped that most of these positions will be filled by the end of the summer. At that time, efforts will be made to inform schools and departments about the specific individuals within SPA who will be supporting them going forward and meetings between these individuals and school/department representatives will be held. As always, please feel free to contact Eric Cottington at emc14@case.edu with any questions, concerns or suggestions related to Sponsored Projects Accounting.

CMS to Make Additional Revisions to Clinical Trial Policy
|
In April, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its proposed Clinical Trial Policy Decision Memorandum. However, CMS reports that since then, it has received comments from hospitals and others indicating that Medicare contractors have been paying claims for hospital services that differ from those listed in the April memorandum.
As a result, on July 9, CMS issued a revised policy with a plan to revise to an even greater extent in future. See the July 9 memo at: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/mcd/viewdecisionmemo.asp?id=186.
