Science Cafe Cleveland

Come to Science Café Cleveland: a lively, informal scientific discussion in an inviting atmosphere of food and drink.

New website for NASA research and analysis news

NASA's Science Mission Directorate has a new website for research and analysis (R&A) news at http://www.science.hq.nasa.gov/research/sara.html. It contains information on the proposal and financial process improvements underway, a list of program officers with email and phone numbers, and statistics on programs. You can submit questions and complaints (and compliments) to SARA (the Senior Advisor for Research and Analysis) and you will get a reply. You can sign up to receive news on SMD's R&A programs at the website. This NSPIRES mailing list will only be used this once to announce the site; so please visit the site and sign up at to get future R&A updates. This NSPIRES mailing list will continue to be used for announcing SMD solicitations like ROSES and AOs.

Fall Seminars Schedule - Registration is Now Open

The Fall Seminar Schedule is posted and available for registration. This semester we will be offering a variety of topics designed to target those new to Case and human subjects research, as well as seminars for our seasoned researchers and faculty members.

New faculty, staff and students should join us for "Basic IRB and CREC Training".

Responsible Investigators will benefit from our special faculty session "Responsible Conduct in Research (RCR): What you need to know to train your staff, fellows and students" and/or "Conflict of Interest Management Plans for Investigators Conducting Human Subjects Research".

Additional seminars will be added throughout the semester. Information will be distributed through Case Research Weekly, Case Daily, and individual emails.

Funding Opportunities
AACR Funding Opportunities for Childhood and Brain Cancer Research


Application Deadline: September 13, 2007

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is now accepting applications for one Career Development Award and one Fellowship.

AACR Centennial Career Development Award for Childhood Cancer Research: A two-year grant of $50,000 per year for direct research expenses. Research projects must have direct applicability to childhood cancers. Applicants must be junior faculty who completed postdoctoral studies or clinical fellowships between January 2, 2005 and January 1, 2008 and who are at an academic or medical institution anywhere in the world.

AACR-National Brain Tumor Foundation Fellowship, in memory of Bonnie Brooks: A two-year fellowship of $40,000 per year to support the salary and benefits of the Fellow. Research projects must have 100% applicability to brain tumor science. Applicants must be Postdoctoral Fellows or Clinical Research Fellows who are in their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of training at the start of the fellowship term and who are at an academic or medical institution in the U.S. .

NIH Issues Final GWAS Database Policy

The National Institutes of Health on Aug. 29, 2007, issued its final policy on a database that will contain findings from genomewide association studies. NIH has been working on the policy since last year; it goes into effect in January. After receiving public comments and holding a town hall meeting last December, NIH revised some aspects of the policy to address concerns about intellectual property rights and the privacy of research subjects.
