Cross-disciplinary Semiconductor Research (CSR)
|
SRC-GRC is soliciting grant applications in Cross-disciplinary Semiconductor Research.
The goal of CSR is to foster exploratory, multi-disciplinary, high-risk university research leading to novel high-payoff solutions for the science and technology challenges faced by the semiconductor industry at and beyond the time horizons of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS). Successful CSR projects will offer innovative and, hopefully, disruptive solutions to the challenge of enabling exponential gains in cost/performance benefits provided by the semiconductor industry for the foreseeable future, and may lead to novel applications for this industry and may enhance the population of non-traditional researchers/out of box thinkers working with the SRC.
Consistent with the incubator role of the initiative, these will be 1 year non-overhead bearing grants and the funding level is $40K.
In cooperation with SRC, the Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems Division of the National Science Foundation will consider making separate awards on select topics under its EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) program. Additional information at http://grc.src.org/fr/S200904_CSR_call.asp
Deadline to Submit Grant Applications Friday, May 1, 2009, 3 PM EDT/12 PM PDT

NIH Announces the Availability of Recovery Act Funds for Administrative Supplements Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators
|
The NIH and our grantee partner institutions have a unique opportunity to support summer research experiences for high school and college students, as well as elementary, middle, and secondary school science teachers, and faculty from non-research intensive institutions in our geographic area.
Creating the next generation of scientists is an interest shared by NIH and leaders at research institutions around the country. Supported through American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), these administrative supplements are available, on an expedited basis, to NIH research grants of faculty at our institution (See NIH Guide Notice NOT-OD-09-060). http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-09-060.html

Overview
SRC-GRC is soliciting grant applications in Cross-disciplinary Semiconductor Research.
The goal of CSR is to foster exploratory, multi-disciplinary, high-risk university research leading to novel high-payoff solutions for the science and technology challenges faced by the semiconductor industry at and beyond the time horizons of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS). Consistent with the incubator role of the initiative, these will be 1 year non-overhead bearing grants and the funding level is $40K. Awardees are encouraged to develop a proposal for follow-on funding of expanded programs by the SRC-GRC, SRC-FCRP or other agencies. Follow-on funding will depend on the availability of funds and strategic plan alignment. In cooperation with SRC, the Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems Division of the National Science Foundation will consider making separate awards on select topics under its EArly-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER) program. The SRC CSR Program solicits exploratory proposals in three related but distinct areas in 2009: i) Materials that support novel devices, and ii) Design methods for ultra-high-speed mixed signal /RF circuits and systems, and iii) Cyber-Physical Systems Design.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Lyndon B.
Johnson Space Center (JSC) has released NASA Research Announcement
(NRA) NNJ09ZSA001N, entitled "Ground-Based Studies in Space Radiobiology." This NRA solicits ground-based proposals for the Space Radiation Program Element (SRPE) components of the Human Research Program (HRP). Proposals are solicited by the SRPE in the area of Space Radiation Biology utilizing beams of high energy heavy ions simulating space radiation at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL), at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in Upton, New York.
The full text of the solicitation is available on the NASA Research Opportunities homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com under menu listing "Open Solicitations." Proposals solicited through this NRA will use a two-step proposal process. Only Step-1 proposers determined to be relevant with respect to the Research Emphases outlined in Section (I)(F) of this NRA will be invited to submit full Step-2 proposals.
Step-2 proposals must be compliant with respect to all sections of this NRA or they will be declined without review. Proposals must be submitted electronically. Step-1 proposals are due April 23, 2009. Step-2 proposals are due June 25, 2009.

21st Annual Planetary Science Summer School
|
NASA is accepting applications from science and engineering post-docs, recent PhDs, and doctoral students for its 21st Annual Planetary Science Summer School, which will hold two separate sessions this summer (20-24 July and 3-7 August) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. During the program, student teams will carry out the equivalent of an early mission concept study, prepare a proposal authorization review presentation, present it to a review board, and receive feedback. At the end of the week, students will have a clearer understanding of the life cycle of a robotic space mission; relationships between mission design, cost, and schedule; and the tradeoffs necessary to stay within cost and schedule while preserving the quality of science. Applications are due 1 May 2009. Partial financial support is available for a limited number of individuals. Further information is available at http://pscischool.jpl.nasa.gov.
