Ovarian Cancer Research Program -- Early-Career Investigator
|
The FY2009 Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) is offering a new award mechanism, the Ovarian Cancer Academy. The Ovarian Cancer Academy is intended to provide intensive mentoring, national networking, and a peer group for early-career investigators.
The Ovarian Cancer Academy will be a virtual career development and collaborative and interactive research training environment consisting of up to five (5) Early-Career Investigator/Designated Mentor pairs from different institutions and will be led by an Academy Dean.

NSF Urban Long-Term Research Area (ULTRA) Exploratory Awards (ULTRA-Ex)

The Urban Long-Term Research Areas: Exploratory Research Projects (ULTRA-Ex) competition will provide support to enable teams of scientists and practitioners to conduct interdisciplinary research on the dynamic interactions between people and natural ecosystems in urban settings in ways that will advance both fundamental and applied knowledge.
Estimated Number of Awards: A total of 16 awards, with each receiving $150,000 per year for two years, are expected. Additional information at

NSF Graduate Research Supplements (GRS) to Current ENG Awards to Broaden Participation
|
The National Science Foundation provides an opportunity to broaden participation particularly of underrepresented students in Ph.D. programs in engineering through supplements to current research grants funded by the divisions in the Directorate for Engineering (ENG).

|
The focus of this program will be on engaging field scientists (supported by the NASA Science Mission Directorate) within NASA Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD) field campaigns to provide high fidelity field testing of hardware and operations to optimize future human scientific exploration of the Moon and Mars.

Infectious Diseases Research Support - STERIS Corporation Grant
|
The Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center, with funds from STERIS Corporation, will provide seed money to faculty to foster research in emerging and healthcare-associated infections. Investigators in the basic science and clinical departments in the School of Medicine and Hospital System as well as in other departments throughout the University are eligible. Grants, not to exceed $37,500 direct costs each, will be awarded to investigators who intend to gather preliminary data to be used in seeking future independently funded awards. Basic science applications are encouraged but should have a clear translational component related to the themes of this request for application. Up to four grants annually will be awarded. At least one of these awards will be targeted directly to STERIS' interests. The University Hospitals Research Institute will serve as the fiscal entity through which the monies will be distributed and awards administered.

Synopsis of Program:
The ISE program invests in projects that promote lifelong learning of STEM in a wide variety of informal settings. Funding is provided for projects that advance understanding of informal STEM learning, that develop and implement innovative strategies and resources for informal STEM education, and that build the national professional capacity for research, development, and practice in the field.
There are five categories of ISE program grants: Research; Pathways; Full-Scale Development; Broad Implementation; and Communicating Research to Public Audiences.
