ROSES-09 Amendment 6: Technology Development for Exoplanet Missions
|
ROSES-09 Amendment 6: New proposal opportunity in Appendix D.11 entitled "Technology Development for Exoplanet Missions."
This amendment establishes a new program element in Appendix D.11 entitled "Technology Development for Exoplanet Missions." This new program element solicits proposals to develop specific technologies (TRL 4-6) that feed into key exoplanet exploration measurement techniques. The measurement techniques upon which future Exoplanet Exploration Program missions are likely to be based include astrometry, coronagraphy, interferometry, and precision photometry. Notices of Intent to propose are due June 30, 2009, and proposals are due August 28, 2009. An informational workshop describing available ExEP testbed capabilities and providing guidance for developing robust development milestones will be held July 8, 2009. Global Climate Change Education (GGCE): Research Experiences, Teaching & Learning
|
The Global Climate Change Education (GCCE) project is designed to improve the quality of global climate change and Earth system science education at the elementary, secondary and undergraduate levels, and through lifelong learning. Each funded proposal is expected to take advantage of NASA's unique contributions in climate science to enhance learners' academic experiences and/or to improve educators' abilities to engage and stimulate their students.
Notices of Intent are required and due by July 2, 2009.

National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
|
Two-year fellowships are available in any U.S. laboratory carrying out space-related biomedical or biotechnological research that supports the NSBRI's goals. NSBRI research addresses and seeks solutions to the various health concerns associated with long-duration human space exploration.
Applicants must submit proposals with the support of a mentor and institution, and all proposals will be evaluated by a peer-review panel. The program is open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or persons with pre-existing visas obtained through their sponsoring institutions that permit postdoctoral training for the project's duration. Please note that grants under this RFA may involve the collection of Geospatial Information. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is seeking applications for Clean Air Research Centers. EPA is interested in supporting research on the health effects of exposure to particulate matter (PM), ozone, and other air pollutants, both singly and in multipollutant atmospheres. Priority research areas include: explaining regional and temporal differences in air pollution risk; determining the origins and transformations of multipollutant atmospheres and their constituents; defining exposure/concentration-response relationships; assessing susceptibility; understanding PM effects in a multipollutant context; and developing greater understanding of PM and ozone health effects. PREDICT - USAID Avian & Pandemic Influenza and Zoonotic Disease Program

Recovery Act: Large Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility
|
This Funding Opportunity Announcement is for the design and construction of a large dynamometer facility for testing 5 to 15 MW rated drivetrains, with supporting systems, and the operation and maintenance of these facilities for the benefit of wind stakeholders nationwide. The proposed facility can be new construction or involve the design and modification of an existing building suitable for electrical, mechanical, and other physical needs associated with a dynamometer test stand. Overhead cranes, access doors, and other facility infrastructure suitable for accommodating associated components and equipment will be required. It is envisioned that the facility will include sufficient office space for permanent staff and visiting users as well as conference rooms, lunch room, restrooms, computer stations, etc. Applicants will be required to submit detailed multi-phase plans including concept designs, preliminary designs, engineering procurement and construction contract management, and operation and maintenance. DOE envisions awarding a single $45 Million financial assistance grant award on a competitive basis. This $45 million program is to assist in the design and construction of an accredited dynamometer testing facility capable of performing Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) of 5 to 15MW rated wind turbine drive trains and generators, including all required supporting systems. Dept of Commerce - Solutions to Problems of Primary Interest to the U.S. Census Bureau

The U.S. Census Bureau has a requirement to obtain from accredited institutions of higher education in the United States solutions to problems of primary interest to the Census Bureau. To satisfy these repetitive needs, the Census Bureau intends to award multiple purchase orders to source selected institutions.
A limited number of orders will be awarded to accredited institutions of higher education in the United States to fund the dissertation research of doctoral candidates or exceptionally strong master's candidates who will propose and investigate solutions to problems on the list of research topics of primary interest to the Census Bureau. The value of the individual delivery orders will not exceed $50,000. Due to the expansion of topics, this selection process will be open for new submissions through December 31, 2010.

NIST Announces Extension of Due Date for TIP FY 2009 Competition
|
Due to technical difficulties, NIST is extending the deadline for proposal submission for its Technology Innovation Program competition to 3 p.m. Eastern Time, Tuesday, July 7, 2009. NIST will accept only paper submissions during the extended time period. Paper submissions must be sent to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 100 Bureau Drive, Stop 4750, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-4701. Please note that for paper submissions the Program requires one original and fifteen (15) copies of the proposal. The new Federal Register Notice with the updated application submission deadline can be found on the TIP web site (link given below), and applicants are advised to read it. |
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Technical Information Database support for PRISM Program. PRISM is an essential component of FMCSA’s enforcement program that provides critical public safety information on the size and operating characteristics of motor carriers and provides a direct safety enforcement link through the maintenance of informational databases between FMCSA and State agencies by tying carrier safety performance to vehicle identification numbers. The recipient will be required to: provide technical support, operations and maintenance of the PRISM system and database; participating States with customer support in implementing day-to-day operations of the PRISM system; assist participating States with implementing training requirements.

HHS - Highly Innovative Tactics to Interrupt Transmission of HIV (HIT-IT) (R01)

Recent setbacks in the vaccine and other biomedical prevention fields have raised several questions leading to increased interest for additional alternative track and untested outside-the-box approaches, highlighting the need for new and innovative paradigms for discovering and developing fresh prevention strategies. The proposed work is expected to explore novel hypotheses or address difficult problems, the solutions to which could have a significant impact on finding methods to interrupt HIV transmission. The research proposed is expected to focus on verifying a hypothesis or solving a problem for the field. The program is open to established and new investigators and does not require research expertise in the area of HIV prevention as a prerequisite for submitting an application.
