The Case Conflict of Interest Advisory Committee (COIC)
The Case Conflict of Interest Advisory Committee (COIC) is composed of Case faculty, university representatives from Research Administration, Technology Transfer, and Finance and Administration, and compliance representatives from our affiliated hospitals. The Offices of General Counsel and Internal Audit participate in an advisory, non-voting capacity, as well.
The primary duties of the COIC include the ongoing development of draft conflict of interest policy and procedures, coordination of these policies and procedures with the affiliate/partner hospitals, review of significant financial interest reports submitted by faculty members and investigators on sponsored research, and the development of research conflict of interest management plans, in consultation with deans and department chairs, as necessary.
The Case COIC meets monthly. Please be aware that COI review can take more than one meeting, and please communicate with the COI Administrator promptly if you believe there could be a perception that your financial interest, or that of any co-investigator on your current or planned research could affect or be affected by your sponsored research (see below for contact information).
For COI management plans under development, investigators are asked to work proactively with the COI Administrator, so that materials for COIC review, e.g., draft management plans and clarifications, edits and comments provided by the investigator, can be readied for distribution to the Committee 14 days before the meeting at which they will be reviewed. (Please see table for meeting schedule and deadlines for preparation of draft COI documents, from September 2007 until June, 2008).
