Please read the following information before completing the
online submission form.
Presentations
are welcome in several formats. Most display space is available for
presentations in the traditional poster format (see guidelines below for
the details about this format). Poster displays can be used to present original
research or scholarship or to describe research centers, consortia or
institutes from Case affiliates. Posters may be supplemented by a table in
front of the poster for displaying articles, books, or a laptop computer. A
chair for the presenter will also be provided.
Limited booth space is available for
active demonstrations of research or scholarship. This format should be
used to display tangible products of research or scholarship or when the poster
format is not well-suited for presenting the results of the research or
scholarship. These presentations should be able to be done in an 10 foot by 10
foot space. An eight foot table and chairs can be provided, if needed, along
with electricity. The number of active demonstrations accepted will be based on
space and resources available.
Faculty, graduate/professional students, undergraduate students, and
postdoctoral scholars/fellows are welcome to present their research or
scholarship in either of the above-referenced formats. However only one request per person is allowed. Please note that graduate students interested in entering the
graduate student poster competition should submit a request for a poster and
not a demonstration.
Presenting a poster at Research ShowCASE may compromise intellectual property rights outside of the United States. If you believe your poster topic represents a unique invention, you may wish to create an invention disclosure and submit it to the Technology Transfer Office at Case (or your institution if you are not at Case) for review at the same time you submit your poster/topic to ShowCASE. You may download an invention disclosure form from:
http://techtransfer.case.edu
Finally, some booth space will be
provided for exhibits of centers or facilities that provide research support services for the university and/or its affiliated institutions
(e.g. Animal Facility, Microarray Facility, Microfabrication Facility, Technology
Transfer Office). These presentations should describe the services provided by
these centers or facilities via handouts, brochures or articles. These exhibits
will consist of an eight foot table and backdrop. Only those individuals who are responsible for directing such a center are
eligible to submit a request for such an exhibit.
Please note that the university reserves the right to limit acceptance based on
space limitations. You are strongly encouraged to submit your request for a presentation as soon as possible. The deadline is 5:00pm, January 31, 2008,
but space is limited so please do not wait until the last minute. Once capacity
has been reached, no more requests will be accepted.
Abstract
Submission
In order
to make a presentation (whether it is in the form of a poster, active
demonstration or center exhibit *(If you would like to discuss your idea for a booth please contact Todd Packer) ), you will need to first submit an
"abstract" (i.e., a brief description of the presentation). Please
read the following before submitting your abstract:
-
All abstracts must be submitted via the Research
ShowCASE website by completing the
online submission form.
-
Abstracts may have a maximum of 2000 characters
and should succinctly describe the research, scholarship, or in the case
of center exhibits, the research support service provided.
-
Use a short, descriptive title. Please limit the
title to 12 words. Do not use abbreviations. Try to make the title as
accessible to a lay audience as possible. No scientific characters or symbols are allowed.
-
The abstract must be single spaced.
-
Abstracts for inclusion on the Research ShowCASE
2008 website must be submitted by 5 pm, January 31, 2008 and be
accepted for presentation at the event.
-
Receipt of abstract will be acknowledged at the time of
submission. To confirm that your submission is active, access
the "I've already submitted my presentation, and I need
to edit it," link on the online submission form.
-
There is no cost to submit an abstract or make a
presentation at the event.
-
Graduate student posters (i.e., where the
presenter is a graduate student) will be judged by a faculty panel. Awards
will be given for the best graduate student posters.
-
Presenters will be assigned times to be at their
poster, demonstration or center exhibit, but they will not need to be
there the entire day. However, it is strongly encouraged that one of the
authors be there at all times. The presenter must be available for set-up
and teardown times designated in the conference program. Posters must be on display for
morning of Wednesday, April 16th through 4:00pm Thursday, April 17th. Plan for adequate staffing during the day on
April 17, 2008 to be able to actively engage with visitors and other presenters. Presenters are encouraged
to bring handouts describing the nature of their work or center and contact information.
-
Individuals may only submit one
abstract for which they are the presenter. However, they may be listed as
an author on other abstracts.
-
If you would like to discuss your idea for a booth
please contact Todd Packer at todd.packer@case.edu
-
Case reserves the right to limit abstract
acceptance based on space limitations. Please note that the deadline is 5
pm, January 31, 2008, but space is limited so please do not wait until the
last minute. Once capacity has been reached, no more requests will be
