Mike Allan

Senior Licensing Officer, Engineering & Physical Sciences
 

Mike manages intellectual property and technology commercialization initiatives emerging from CWRU’s Case School of Engineering and from selective departments in the Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine. In support of collaborations being led by senior leadership, Mike also exerts a significant role in managing external relationships on both academic and corporate levels.

After ten years as co-founder and Vice President, Technology Assessment with First Principals, Inc., a Cleveland-based technology transfer firm, Mike joined the office as Director of Biomedical Operations in March 2008. At First Principals, his responsibilities included commercial feasibility, valuation, marketing, and commercialization of a wide-range of early-stage, biomedical and engineering technology opportunities. Mike also developed the firm’s university technology transfer consulting practice, and cultivated clients in the U.S., Hong Kong, and Japan.

Formerly, while at Competitive Technologies, Inc., Mike was Director of Information Resources. Previously, as the former Manager of Eveready Battery Company’s Technical Information Center, Mike directed and performed a wide range of patent-related research, proprietary database searching, marketing research, competitive analyses.

Mike earned his B.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. in Information Sciences from the University of Buffalo. Mr. Allan is an active member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and serves in various leadership capacities, including as Assistant Vice President for Central Region.
